Dimethyl Formamide (DMF) is a clear, colorless, hygroscopic liquid with a faint amine odor. Known as the "Universal Solvent," it has exceptional solvency power for a wide range of organic and inorganic compounds. DMF is a polar aprotic solvent with a high boiling point. It facilitates reactions that follow polar mechanisms, such as $S_N2$ reactions. It is miscible with water and most organic liquids.
