[Image of phenol chemical structure] Phenol Crystal Carbolic Acid Purity 99.9% / Pharma Grade
Formula: C₆H₅OH

Phenol Crystal

Carbolic Acid / Hydroxybenzene

Phenol is an aromatic organic compound characterized by a hydroxyl group attached to a phenyl ring. It appears as white crystalline solid at room temperature. It is the fundamental building block for the production of Bisphenol A, Phenolic Resins, Nylon 6, and pharmaceutical intermediates like Salicylic Acid (Aspirin).

CAS Number 108-95-2
Freezing Point 40.6°C
Grade Technical / USP

Product Overview

At Ruvon, we supply premium Phenol with 99.9% purity. It is highly hygroscopic and turns pink/red if exposed to air or iron impurities due to oxidation. We ensure galvanized or epoxy-coated drums to maintain the white crystalline quality.

  • High Purity: Low moisture and iron content ensure it is suitable for sensitive polymerization reactions (Polycarbonate/Nylon).
  • Disinfectant: Historically known as Carbolic Acid, it is a strong antimicrobial agent used in floor cleaners and pharma.
  • Resin Precursor: Reacts with Formaldehyde to form Phenol-Formaldehyde resins (Bakelite) used in laminates and electrical switches.

The Solid-Liquid Dilemma

Why is the Drum Solid?

Phenol has a freezing point of approx 41°C. This means in standard room temperature (25°C), pure phenol exists as a solid white crystal.

  • Proof of Purity: If your Phenol drum is liquid in winter, it is likely contaminated with water. High purity phenol must be solid at room temperature.
  • Handling Tip: To use it, drums must be placed in a "Hot Box" or warm water bath (50°C-60°C) to melt the crystals into a liquid state for pouring. Never apply direct flame.

Industrial Applications

Phenolic Resins

Production of Bakelite, plywood adhesives, and laminates (Sunmica).

Pharmaceuticals

Starting material for Salicylic Acid (Aspirin), Paracetamol, and throat lozenges.

Bisphenol-A (BPA)

Used to make Polycarbonate plastics (CDs, bottles) and Epoxy resins.

Caprolactam (Nylon)

Intermediate for the production of Nylon 6 fibers and engineering plastics.

Disinfectants

Used in floor cleaners (Black Phenyl) and industrial sanitizers.

Dyes & Inks

Intermediate for azo dyes, picric acid, and other colorants.

Packaging Options

225 KG Galvanized Drums

GI Drums prevent rust contamination (which turns Phenol red).

ISO Tank Container

Bulk molten supply (20-24 MT) with steam heating coils.

Safety & Handling Protocols

Severe Health Hazard

Phenol is corrosive, toxic, and absorbed rapidly through skin.

  • Anesthetic Effect: Phenol burns kill nerve endings, so you may not feel pain immediately. This is dangerous.
  • Skin Contact: If splashed, wash with Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) 300 or large amounts of water.
  • PPE: Full chemical suit, neoprene gloves, and face shield are mandatory.
