Direct Blue 86 is a premium direct dye known for its incredibly bright, brilliant turquoise shade. Unlike standard azo dyes, it is based on the Copper Phthalocyanine chromophore, which gives it exceptional stability against light and heat. It is the gold standard for dyeing cotton, viscose, and paper where brightness is key.
Direct Blue 86 is a substantive dye, meaning it has a natural affinity for cellulose fibers like cotton and paper pulp without requiring a mordant. However, adding salt (Sodium Sulfate/Chloride) helps exhaust the dye onto the fiber.

Direct Blue 86 is chemically a Copper Phthalocyanine derivative. This molecule has a central Copper atom surrounded by a stable nitrogen ring system.
Major Use: Used for dyeing tissue paper, napkins, and fine paper. It has excellent affinity for paper pulp and does not bleed easily.
Used for dyeing cotton fabrics, yarns, and curtains where bright turquoise shades are required at a low cost.
Used in the formulation of water-based writing inks, highlighters, and inkjet inks due to high solubility.
Stable coloring agent for soap bars and detergent powders.
Used as a color marker for fertilizers and seed coatings.
