Carbon Black

Pigment Black 7 (High Colour & Rubber Grades)

Carbon Black is a form of elemental carbon manufactured by the controlled vapor-phase pyrolysis of hydrocarbons. It is the most widely used black pigment in the world, prized for its high Tinting Strength (covering power), UV stability, and electrical conductivity. We offer specialty grades for Coatings (High Jetness) and Rubber (Reinforcement).

CAS Number 1333-86-4
Surface Area (BET) High / Medium

Product Overview

Carbon Black is not just a black powder; it is an engineered nanomaterial. Its properties are defined by particle size, structure (aggregate size), and surface chemistry. We supply both Specialty Blacks (for Inks/Plastics) and Industrial Blacks (for Rubber).

  • UV Absorber: Effectively absorbs ultraviolet radiation, preventing degradation of plastics and pipes (e.g., HDPE pipes).
  • Conductivity: Certain grades (Conductive Black) make plastics and rubber electrically conductive to prevent static buildup (ESD).
  • Reinforcement: Increases the abrasion resistance and tensile strength of rubber tires.

The Science of "Jetness" & "Undertone"

Particle Size Matters

The "blackness" or Jetness of Carbon Black depends entirely on its primary particle size.

  • Smaller Particles (< 20 nm): Provide higher surface area and absorb more light. This creates a deep, pitch-black color (High Jetness) with a Blue Undertone. Ideal for automotive coatings.
  • Larger Particles (> 40 nm): Absorb less light and scatter more. This creates a lighter, greyer black with a Brown Undertone. Ideal for tinting and rubber reinforcement.

Industrial Applications

Inks & Toners

Used in offset inks, flexographic inks, and laser printer toners for deep black printing.

Automotive Coatings

High Color blacks used for basecoats to achieve the "Piano Black" finish.

Plastics & Masterbatch

Used for coloring films, pipes, and cables. Provides critical UV protection for outdoor plastics.

Rubber & Tires

Reinforcing filler that improves wear resistance and durability of tires and belts.

Batteries

Conductive grade (Acetylene Black) is used in dry cell and Lithium-ion batteries.

Leather & Synthetic

Used for coating synthetic leather and shoe soles.

Packaging Options

10 KG / 20 KG Paper Bags

Multi-layer kraft bags. Because Carbon Black is extremely light (low bulk density), bags are large.

500 KG / 1 MT Jumbo Bags

Big bags for automated industrial feeding systems.

Safety & Handling Protocols

Dust Management

Carbon Black is generally non-toxic but is a nuisance dust.

  • Inhalation: Long-term exposure can overload lungs. Always wear a high-quality dust mask (N95/FFP2).
  • Explosion Risk: Like all organic dusts, high concentrations in air can be explosive. Ensure proper grounding of equipment.
  • Cleaning: Do not sweep dry. Use vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters to avoid spreading the dust.
