Castor Derived
12-Hydroxystearic Acid (12-HSA) is a saturated fatty acid derived from the hydrogenation of Castor Oil. It appears as hard, brittle, white flakes or powder. It is the gold standard hardener and thickener for Lithium Greases, providing superior structural stability, water resistance, and high dropping points compared to standard stearic acid.
12-HSA is produced by the hydrolysis of Hydrogenated Castor Oil. It is essentially Stearic Acid with a Hydroxyl group at the 12th position. This small chemical difference changes everything. It allows 12-HSA to form strong 3D fiber networks in oils, creating high-quality greases that don't melt easily.
