Product Overview

12-HSA is produced by the hydrolysis of Hydrogenated Castor Oil. It is essentially Stearic Acid with a Hydroxyl group at the 12th position. This small chemical difference changes everything. It allows 12-HSA to form strong 3D fiber networks in oils, creating high-quality greases that don't melt easily.

Mechanism: The "Grease Sponge"

Why 12-HSA creates better Grease?

Grease is just Oil + Soap (Thickener). The Soap acts like a sponge holding the oil.

  • The Hydroxyl Hook: The unique -OH group on 12-HSA allows molecules to bond strongly with each other (Hydrogen Bonding). When reacted with Lithium Hydroxide, it forms twisted, fibrous soap crystals.
  • The Sponge Effect: These fibers create a robust 3D network (like a sponge) that traps the lubricating oil. This structure is stable under mechanical stress (shear) and heat, which is why Lithium 12-HSA is the world's most popular multipurpose grease.
