Product Overview

LABSA (Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid) is an anionic surfactant known for its high detergency, moistening, foaming, and emulsifying capabilities. It is produced by the sulphonation of Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB).

  • High Performance: Excellent cleaning power and compatibility with other surfactants (SLES, AOS).
  • Cost Effective: It is the most economical surfactant base for mass-market detergent powders.
  • Soft Acid: Unlike the older "Hard Acid" (Branched chain), LABSA is biodegradable and does not harm aquatic life after treatment.

Reaction Chemistry: The Neutralization Step

LABSA is an Acid — It Must Be Neutralized

LABSA cannot be used directly for cleaning due to its high acidity. It must be neutralized with an alkali (base) to form the water-soluble salt (Sodium Salt). This reaction is highly exothermic (generates heat).

Reaction Equation:
$\text{R-SO}_3\text{H (Acid)} + \text{NaOH (Caustic)} \rightarrow \text{R-SO}_3\text{Na (Paste)} + \text{H}_2\text{O} + \text{Heat}$
  • For Powder: Neutralize with Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash).
  • For Liquid/Gel: Neutralize with Caustic Soda (NaOH) or Caustic Potash (KOH).

Industrial Applications

Detergent Powder

The main active ingredient for spray-dried and mixing-process washing powders.

Detergent Cake/Bar

Provides the binding and cleaning properties in laundry detergent bars.

Liquid Cleaners

Neutralized to form the base for Dishwash Liquids and Floor Cleaners.

Textile Scouring

Used as a mercerizing and washing agent in the textile industry.

Pesticide Emulsifier

Used to improve the solubility of agricultural sprays (as Calcium Salt).

Industrial Cleaning

Heavy-duty degreasing for machinery and institutional cleaning.

Packaging Options

225kg HM-HDPE Drums

Standard blue plastic drums suitable for acid handling.

1000kg IBC Totes

For bulk automated dosing systems.

Safety & Handling Protocols

Corrosive Material (Acid)

LABSA is a strong organic acid. Direct contact can cause burns.

  • Skin/Eye Contact: Causes burns. Immediate washing with plenty of water is required. Use Safety Goggles and Acid-Resistant Gloves.
  • Tank Material: Store in Stainless Steel (SS 316) or Plastic (HDPE). Do not use Mild Steel (MS) as it will corrode and darken the product.
  • Spill Control: Neutralize spills with Soda Ash or Lime before washing away.
