CAPB Liquid Surfactant Amphoteric Surfactant
Chemical Formula: C19H38N2O3

CAPB (Coco Betaine)

Coco Amido Propyl Betaine (30% Active)

CAPB is a premium amphoteric surfactant derived from coconut oil. It acts as the perfect "secondary surfactant" alongside SLES, offering mildness to the skin, excellent foam boosting, and significant viscosity building (thickening) capabilities in shampoos and body washes.

CAS Number 61789-40-0
Active Matter 30% Min
Appearance Clear Yellow Liquid

Product Overview

Coco Amido Propyl Betaine (CAPB) is chemically classified as an amphoteric surfactant, meaning it carries both positive and negative charges depending on the pH level. This unique property makes it compatible with all other types of surfactants (Anionic, Cationic, and Non-ionic).

  • The Mildness Booster: It reduces the irritation potential of harsh primary surfactants like SLES and SLS, making the final product gentler on eyes and skin.
  • Conditioning Effect: Due to its cationic nature at lower pH, it provides a light conditioning and anti-static effect to hair.
  • Flash Foam: Generates a rich, creamy lather instantly upon agitation.

Advanced Technical Specifications (COA)

Our CAPB is manufactured with controlled impurity levels (Low Free Amine) to ensure no off-odor in your final product.

Process Technology: "The Salt Curve"

Viscosity Building Synergy

One of CAPB's most valuable features is its ability to thicken anionic surfactant systems (like SLES) cheaply using Salt (Sodium Chloride). This phenomenon is known as the "Salt Curve."

  • Mechanism: Adding CAPB to SLES changes the micelle structure from spherical to rod-like, which increases thickness.
  • Efficiency: A typical ratio of SLES:CAPB (e.g., 10:1 or 8:2) allows you to achieve gel-like consistency with minimal salt addition, saving formulation costs.
  • Caution: Adding too much salt will cause the viscosity to crash (liquify again).

Industrial Applications

Shampoos

Reduces static, conditions hair, and creates thick lather.

Baby Products

Essential for "No Tears" baby shampoos and body washes.

Hand Wash

Provides the necessary thickness and soft skin feel.

Bubble Baths

Produces stable, long-lasting bubbles.

Face Wash

Mild enough for sensitive facial skin cleansing.

Pet Shampoos

Used in gentle cleaning formulations for pets.

Safety & Handling Protocols

Mild Irritant

CAPB is much milder than other surfactants, but concentrated forms still require care.

  • Eye Contact: Can cause irritation. Rinse thoroughly with water if splashed. Wear safety glasses.
  • Skin Contact: Prolonged exposure to concentrated liquid may cause irritation. Wear gloves.
  • Compatibility: Compatible with anionic, cationic, and non-ionic surfactants.
