Toluene Methylbenzene Solvent Fast Evaporating
Formula: C₆H₅CH₃

Toluene

Methylbenzene / Toluol (High Purity)

Toluene is a clear, water-insoluble liquid with a distinct smell similar to paint thinners. It belongs to the aromatic hydrocarbon family. Ruvon supplies Virgin Grade Toluene, which is widely used as an industrial feedstock and a solvent. It is chemically stable but highly flammable, requiring careful handling.

CAS Number 108-88-3
Purity 99.5% Min
Flash Point 4°C (Highly Flammable)

Product Overview

Toluene is produced during the refining of crude oil. It is a powerful solvent capable of dissolving paints, paint thinners, silicone sealants, many chemical reactants, rubber, printing ink, adhesives (glues), lacquers, leather tanners, and disinfectants.

  • Solvent Power: High solvency for alkyd resins, acrylics, and polystyrene.
  • Chemical Intermediate: Used to manufacture Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI) which is used for polyurethane foam.
  • Low Benzene: Our grade strictly controls Benzene content (< 0.1%) to ensure worker safety compliance.

Comparison: Toluene vs. Xylene

The Need for Speed

In the paint industry, choosing between Toluene and Xylene depends on how fast you want the paint to dry.

  • Toluene (Fast): Evaporates quickly. Ideal for spray paints and adhesives where you want the product to set immediately to avoid dripping.
  • Mixed Xylene (Medium): Evaporates slower. Ideal for brushing paints where you need time for the brush marks to level out (Flow & Leveling).
  • The Mix: Manufacturers often blend both to create a "Thinner" with the perfect drying time for specific weather conditions.

Industrial Applications

Paints & Thinners

Used as a solvent for thinners, lacquers, and enamel paints for quick drying.

Adhesives (Rubber Glue)

The primary solvent in rubber-based adhesives (like Dendrite type glues) and contact cements.

Printing Inks

Used in rotogravure printing inks to control viscosity and drying speed on paper.

Chemical Synthesis

Raw material for Benzoic Acid, Benzaldehyde, and Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI).

Nail Polish

Acts as a solvent to keep the polish liquid in the bottle and smooth on the nail.

Leather Tanning

Used as a degreasing agent for leather skins before tanning.

Packaging Options

185 KG MS Drums

Standard heavy-duty steel drums. Reconditioned or New.

Road Tanker / ISO Tank

Bulk supply (15-20 MT) for large adhesive and paint factories.

Safety & Handling Protocols

Highly Flammable

Toluene has a Flash Point of 4°C. It can ignite at room temperature.

  • Ventilation: Vapors are heavier than air and travel along the ground. Ensure floor-level ventilation.
  • Inhalation: Prolonged exposure causes "Glue Sniffer's Syndrome" (dizziness, nausea). Use respirators.
  • PPE: Wear Viton or PVA gloves. Nitrile gloves provide only short-term protection against Toluene.
