Benzene

Pure Grade (Low Sulphur)

Benzene is the most basic aromatic hydrocarbon and a critical feedstock for the chemical industry. It is a clear, colorless, highly flammable liquid with a sweet odor. Ruvon supplies Virgin Benzene with >99.9% purity, essential for downstream manufacturing of Styrene, Cumene, Cyclohexane, and Nitrobenzene.

CAS Number 71-43-2
Purity 99.9% Min
Freezing Point 5.5°C

Product Overview

Benzene is not just a solvent; it is an "Intermediate." Almost 80% of global Benzene is used to produce three chemicals: Ethylbenzene (for Styrene), Cumene (for Phenol), and Cyclohexane (for Nylon). Purity is critical because impurities like Sulphur can poison the catalysts used in these reactions.

  • Purity 99.9%: Ensures high yield in chemical synthesis reactions.
  • Low Sulphur: < 1 ppm Sulphur content protects sensitive catalytic converters.
  • Low Non-Aromatics: Strictly controlled Toluene and Non-Aromatic content.

Technical Specifications

Conforms to ASTM D-2359 (Refined Benzene-535).

Mechanism: The Aromatic Ring

Why is it so stable?

Benzene has a unique hexagonal ring structure with "delocalized electrons" (Resonance). This makes it chemically very stable but also very reactive towards substitution.

  • The Substitution Base: Because of this ring, chemists can easily replace one Hydrogen atom with other groups (like Alkyl, Nitro, or Hydroxyl) to create thousands of different products like detergents, plastics, and drugs.
  • Freezing Point Alert: Benzene freezes at 5.5°C. In winter, pipelines carrying Benzene can freeze solid. Heating tracing is required for transport in cold climates.

Industrial Applications

Styrene & Polystyrene

Reacted with Ethylene to make Ethylbenzene, which becomes Styrene (used in plastics and foam).

Phenol & Acetone

Converted to Cumene, which is then oxidized to produce Phenol (for resins) and Acetone.

Nylon Fibers

Hydrogenated to Cyclohexane, a precursor for Caprolactam and Adipic Acid (Nylon 6/66).

Detergents (LAB)

Used to make Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB), the main ingredient in laundry detergents.

Rubber Chemicals

Precursor for Aniline, which is used to make rubber accelerators and antioxidants.

Solvents

Used as a solvent in pharmaceutical manufacturing and special adhesives.

Packaging Options

180 KG MS Drums

Standard heavy-duty steel drums. Reconditioned or New.

Road Tanker / ISO Tank

Bulk supply (15-20 MT) for large petrochemical plants.

Safety & Handling Protocols

Carcinogen & Flammable

Benzene is a Class 1 Carcinogen (causes Leukemia). Strict safety is non-negotiable.

  • Health: Long-term exposure affects bone marrow and blood cells. Zero tolerance for leaks.
  • PPE: Full chemical suit, heavy-duty Nitrile/Viton gloves, and respirators are mandatory.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, well-ventilated area. Flash point is -11°C (Extremely Flammable).
