Xanthan Gum is a high-molecular-weight biopolymer produced by microbial fermentation (Xanthomonas campestris). It is famous for its unique ability to increase the viscosity of liquids enormously even at very low concentrations. It is the premier additive for Oil & Gas Drilling Fluids and Food Stabilization.
Xanthan Gum acts as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier. It creates a stable gel structure that prevents ingredients from separating (like oil in salad dressing) or solids from settling (like drill cuttings in an oil well).

Xanthan Gum exhibits extreme Pseudoplasticity (Shear Thinning). This means its viscosity changes based on movement:
Primary Viscosifier: Increases mud viscosity to carry cuttings to the surface.
Hole Cleaning: Its gel strength suspends solids when circulation stops, preventing pipe sticking.
Sauces & Dressings: Prevents oil separation and provides "mouthfeel".
Gluten-Free Baking: Replaces gluten to give dough elasticity and structure.
Prevents dripping and splatter during application.
Binder in toothpaste and thickener in lotions.
Allows toilet bowl cleaners to cling to vertical surfaces.
Multi-wall bags with moisture-proof PE liner.
