Product Overview

Potassium Formate is an organic salt of formic acid. In the oilfield, it is valued for its ability to create heavy brines (up to 13.1 PPG or 1.57 SG) without the use of suspended solids like Barite. This prevents "formation damage" (clogging of oil-bearing rocks).

  • Low Corrosivity: Unlike Calcium Chloride or Bromide, Potassium Formate is much less corrosive to steel pipes and drilling equipment.
  • Thermal Stability: Remains stable at high temperatures (up to 218°C), making it ideal for deep, hot wells.
  • Environmentally Safe: It has low toxicity and low biological oxygen demand (BOD), making it safer for marine life in case of offshore spills.
