BKC 50% 80% Corrosion Inhibitor Dual Action (Biocide + Inhibitor)
Structure: Alkyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride

Benzalkonium Chloride

BKC 50% / 80% (Quaternary Ammonium Compound)

Benzalkonium Chloride (BKC) is a cationic surfactant belonging to the Quaternary Ammonium class (Quats). In the Oil & Gas industry, it is unique because it serves two vital functions simultaneously: it acts as a potent Biocide to kill sulfur-reducing bacteria and as a Corrosion Inhibitor by forming a protective film on metal surfaces.

CAS Number 8001-54-5
Concentration 50% & 80%
Function Corrosion Inhibitor

Product Overview

Ruvon supplies premium Benzalkonium Chloride specially formulated for Water Injection Systems and Drilling Muds. It is compatible with cationic and non-ionic polymers. Its surfactant properties also help in cleaning the formation, improving injectivity.

  • Corrosion Protection: Forms a persistent film on steel surfaces, protecting pipelines from acid attack ($CO_2$ and $H_2S$).
  • Biocidal Control: Effectively controls algae, slime forming bacteria, and sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB).
  • Interfacial Tension: Reduces surface tension, aiding in the flow back of treatment fluids.

Mechanism: The "Filming Amine" Shield

How does it stop rust?

BKC is a "Cationic" surfactant, meaning it carries a positive charge.

  • Magnetic Attraction: Metal pipes usually have a negative surface charge. The positive head of the BKC molecule is attracted to the metal and sticks to it like a magnet.
  • The Hydrophobic Tail: Once the head sticks to the metal, the long oily "tail" of the molecule faces outwards. These tails bunch together to form a water-repellent (hydrophobic) barrier. This film stops corrosive water, acid, and oxygen from touching the metal.

Pro-Tip: The Cleaning Effect

More than just a Biocide

Because BKC is a surfactant (soap), it has excellent cleaning properties.
Advantage: When injected into old wells, it cleans sludge, oil residues, and bacterial slime from the wellbore. This cleaning action often results in Increased Injectivity (better water flow) alongside corrosion protection.

Industrial Applications

Water Injection

Used in secondary oil recovery to prevent corrosion in injection pipelines and kill bacteria.

Drilling Muds

Preservative for starch/gum based muds to prevent fermentation and souring.

Gas Pipelines

Used in batch treatment of gas lines to inhibit corrosion caused by condensed water.

Acidizing

Added to Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) during well stimulation to protect the casing from acid corrosion.

Water Treatment

Used as an algaecide in cooling towers and swimming pools.

Packer Fluids

Added to fluids left in the annular space to prevent corrosion during well shut-ins.

Packaging Options

200 KG HDPE Drums

Standard plastic drums. Corrosion resistant packing.

1000 KG IBC Totes

Cost-effective for large field injections.

Safety & Handling Protocols

Corrosive Concentrate

While it inhibits corrosion on steel, the concentrated chemical is corrosive to skin.

  • Skin/Eyes: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Use face shield and rubber gloves.
  • Environment: Very toxic to aquatic life. Do not discharge into the sea without treatment.
