Alkaline / Neutral Grade
Sodium Silicate is a versatile, colorless, viscous liquid consisting of sodium oxide and silica. It serves as a vital component in the Oil & Gas industry as a deflocculant (thinner) and clay stabilizer. Beyond oil fields, it is the backbone of the detergent, adhesive, and construction chemical industries.
Sodium Silicate is produced by melting silica sand with sodium carbonate (soda ash) at high temperatures and then dissolving the glass in water. Ruvon supplies tailored grades based on the weight ratio of Silica to Alkali, which determines the product's specific application suitability.
We supply both Alkaline (Standard) and Neutral (High Silica) grades based on customer requirements.
| Parameter | Alkaline Grade | Neutral Grade |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Clear / Hazy Colorless Viscous Liquid | |
| Weight Ratio (SiO₂ : Na₂O) | 2.00 - 2.50 | 3.20 - 3.40 |
| Total Solids | 42% - 48% | 35% - 40% |
| Density (Baumé °Bé) | 48° - 58° Bé | 38° - 42° Bé |
| Specific Gravity (20°C) | 1.50 - 1.65 | 1.35 - 1.41 |
| Viscosity (cps at 20°C) | Variable (High) | 100 - 300 cps |
| pH | ~ 12.5 (Strong Alkaline) | ~ 11.3 (Moderately Alkaline) |
The functionality of Sodium Silicate depends entirely on the ratio of Silica ($SiO_2$) to Sodium Oxide ($Na_2O$):
Deflocculant: Thins out the drilling mud.
Lost Circulation Material: Seals porous rock formations to prevent mud loss.
Cement Extender: Accelerates cement setting.
Provides alkalinity, prevents corrosion of washing machine parts, and suspends soil particles to prevent re-deposition on clothes.
Concrete hardener, dust proofer, and soil stabilizer.
Adhesive for spiral winding of paper tubes and cardboard laminating.
Peroxide stabilizer during the bleaching process of cotton.
Standard drums for easy handling and export.
Bulk supply (20-30 MT) for large consumption factories.
Sodium Silicate is a strong alkali (High pH).
Available in Alkaline and Neutral Grades. Custom density (Baumé) formulation available.
