Sodium Silicate Liquid Alkaline / Neutral Grade
Formula: Na₂O · xSiO₂

Sodium Silicate

Liquid Glass / Water Glass

Sodium Silicate is a versatile, colorless, viscous liquid consisting of sodium oxide and silica. It serves as a vital component in the Oil & Gas industry as a deflocculant (thinner) and clay stabilizer. Beyond oil fields, it is the backbone of the detergent, adhesive, and construction chemical industries.

CAS Number 1344-09-8
Grades Alkaline / Neutral
Form Viscous Liquid

Product Overview

Sodium Silicate is produced by melting silica sand with sodium carbonate (soda ash) at high temperatures and then dissolving the glass in water. Ruvon supplies tailored grades based on the weight ratio of Silica to Alkali, which determines the product's specific application suitability.

  • Binding Power: Excellent adhesive properties for cardboard and foundry molds.
  • Corrosion Inhibition: Forms a protective film on metal surfaces, preventing rust in water pipes.
  • Reactivity: Reacts with calcium in concrete to harden and seal surfaces (Dust Proofing).

Technical Specifications

We supply both Alkaline (Standard) and Neutral (High Silica) grades based on customer requirements.

Which Grade Do You Need?

The functionality of Sodium Silicate depends entirely on the ratio of Silica ($SiO_2$) to Sodium Oxide ($Na_2O$):

  • Alkaline Grade (Ratio < 2.5): Higher Sodium content. More tacky and faster drying. Preferred for Detergents, Ceramics, and Oil Drilling.
  • Neutral Grade (Ratio > 3.0): Higher Silica content. Less alkalinity. Preferred for Paper Adhesives, Silica Gel manufacturing, and Acid-Proof Cements.

Industrial Applications

Oil & Gas Drilling

Deflocculant: Thins out the drilling mud.
Lost Circulation Material: Seals porous rock formations to prevent mud loss.
Cement Extender: Accelerates cement setting.

Detergents & Soaps

Provides alkalinity, prevents corrosion of washing machine parts, and suspends soil particles to prevent re-deposition on clothes.

Construction

Concrete hardener, dust proofer, and soil stabilizer.

Paper & Cardboard

Adhesive for spiral winding of paper tubes and cardboard laminating.

Textiles

Peroxide stabilizer during the bleaching process of cotton.

Packaging Options

300 KG HDPE Drums

Standard drums for easy handling and export.

Road Tankers / ISO Tanks

Bulk supply (20-30 MT) for large consumption factories.

Safety & Handling Protocols

Alkaline Nature

Sodium Silicate is a strong alkali (High pH).

  • Skin/Eye Contact: Can cause irritation or burns similar to caustic soda. Wear goggles and rubber gloves.
  • Spills: Spills become extremely slippery and dry into a hard glass. Wash immediately with water.
  • Aluminum: Do not store in aluminum containers as it reacts to release hydrogen gas.
